The story of

V/Line

V/Line was established in 1983 as the brand for Victoria's country rail and coach services, taking over from Victorian Railways. It was privatised in the late 1990s before returning to public ownership in 2003. The network today operates 13 lines radiating from Melbourne's Southern Cross Station, using VLocity diesel multiple units alongside classic N-class locomotive-hauled services.
