The story of
Trenord was formed in 2011 as a joint venture between Trenitalia and Regione Lombardia (via its holding company FNM), consolidating regional rail services previously split between Trenitalia and LeNord. It now operates Lombardy's full regional (R/RE) and suburban S-Bahn-style (S-line) network centred on Milan, connecting the city to Bergamo, Brescia, Como, Varese, Lecco, Pavia, Cremona, Mantova, and beyond.
