Buenos Aires heavy commuter and regional rail: Sarmiento, San MartĂn, Roca, all Mitre main branches and Belgrano Sur. Most routes use current official station timetables with short/express workings and construction replacements. Suárez and BartolomĂ© Mitre use explicitly synthetic windows, headways and journey clocks while their official timetable link is unavailable. Estimated positions only; no GPS.
The story of
Buenos Aires' commuter rail network dates back to the late 19th century, when British-owned companies built an extensive railway system radiating from the capital. After nationalization in 1948 under President PerĂłn, the lines were grouped under Ferrocarriles Argentinos. Following privatization in the 1990s, various concessionaires operated the lines with mixed results. After the tragic Once station crash in 2012 that killed 51 people, the government created Trenes Argentinos Operadora Ferroviaria (SOFSE) to gradually take back operations. SOFSE operates the Mitre, Sarmiento, Roca, San MartĂn and Belgrano Sur metropolitan lines. FerrovĂas Belgrano Norte and MetrovĂas Urquiza appear as separate providers on this platform.
