Rocky Mountaineer is a private luxury tourist train running seasonal, daylight-only scenic journeys through the Canadian Rockies on shared CP Rail freight track, with an overnight hotel stop at the midpoint of each multi-day route. This is a ghost train: there is no live GPS or GTFS-RT feed, positions are simulated from the published schedule.
The story of
Rocky Mountaineer began operating in 1990 after acquiring the rights to run passenger rail through the Canadian Rockies from VIA Rail, building its business around daytime-only scenic travel -- trains never run overnight, stopping instead for a hotel break at the midpoint of each journey.
