Rhätische Bahn network image

Rhätische Bahn (RhB) operates Switzerland's largest narrow-gauge rail network across Graubünden, running the UNESCO World Heritage Albula/Bernina line and the scenic Glacier and Bernina Express routes.

Rhätische Bahn

The story of

Rhätische Bahn

Founded in 1889, RhB built an extensive metre-gauge network through the Alps of Graubünden, with engineering feats like the Landwasser Viaduct and crossings of the Albula and Bernina passes. The Albula/Bernina line was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008 in recognition of its landscape integration and engineering. RhB co-operates the Glacier Express with Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn, connecting Zermatt and St. Moritz, and its own Bernina Express crosses from Chur to Tirano, Italy, over the highest adhesion-rail crossing of the Alps.
