The story of
The Kansas City Area Transportation Authority was established in 1965 to provide public transportation services in the Kansas City metropolitan area. In 2016, the KC Streetcar began operation in downtown Kansas City, marking the return of rail transit to the city after a 59-year absence. The 2.2-mile starter line connects the River Market to Union Station, with plans for expansion north to the riverfront and south to UMKC.
