The story of
Israel Railways traces back to the Ottoman-era Jaffa-Jerusalem line of 1892, but today's national network was rebuilt and expanded from the 1990s onward under the state-owned Israel Railways. The system now links the coastal plain, the north, and the Negev, with a high-speed line connecting Tel Aviv and Jerusalem in under half an hour since 2018 and full electrification of the core network completed in 2023.
