The Indian Pacific is Journey Beyond's transcontinental tourist train, crossing Australia coast-to-coast between Sydney and Perth via Adelaide -- including the Nullarbor Plain, home to the longest dead-straight stretch of railway track in the world. This is a ghost train: there is no live GPS or GTFS-RT feed, positions are simulated from the published schedule.
The story of
The Indian Pacific began service in 1970, the same year the last gap in a uniform-gauge transcontinental line was completed, finally allowing a single train to run the full 4,352km between the Indian and Pacific Oceans without changing trains for a different rail gauge.
