The story of
Indian Railways, one of the world's largest rail networks, was established in 1853 with the first line between Bombay and Thane. The Rajdhani Express launched in 1969 connecting Delhi to Howrah, followed by Shatabdi Express in 1988 for fast daytime travel. Today, Indian Railways operates over 13,000 trains daily across 68,000+ route kilometres, serving 8 billion passengers annually. Premium services like Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto, and the newer Vande Bharat Express represent the fastest and most prestigious trains in the network.
