The story of
SL
Storstockholms Lokaltrafik (SL) is the public transport authority for Stockholm County, responsible for metro, commuter rail, light rail, and bus services. The Stockholm metro (Tunnelbana) opened in 1950 and has grown into one of Europe's most distinctive subway systems, famous for its art-adorned stations. SL's commuter rail (Pendeltåg) connects suburbs and satellite towns across the Mälaren Valley, while the Roslagsbanan and Saltsjöbanan narrow-gauge lines serve the northern and eastern suburbs. Together these rail services carry hundreds of millions of passengers annually, forming the backbone of transport in Sweden's capital region.
