SJ is Sweden's national intercity rail operator, running high-speed and long-distance trains across the country.
The story of
SJ AB is the primary passenger train operator in Sweden, successor to the state railway Statens Järnvägar which dates back to 1856. SJ operates high-speed X 2000 tilting trains and newer SJ 3000 trainsets on intercity routes connecting Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malmö, Sundsvall, and destinations across Sweden. Following rail deregulation in the 2000s, SJ became a state-owned company competing on the open market. The X 2000, introduced in 1990, reaches speeds of 200 km/h and dramatically reduced journey times between Sweden's major cities.
