The story of

ScotRail

ScotRail is the brand used for most passenger rail services in Scotland. The franchise has been operated by various companies since British Rail was privatised in the 1990s. In 2022, ScotRail was brought into public ownership under Scottish Rail Holdings, a subsidiary of the Scottish Government. The network spans from the Highlands to the Borders, serving over 350 stations and carrying approximately 100 million passenger journeys per year. ScotRail operates a mix of urban commuter services around Glasgow and Edinburgh, intercity routes, and scenic rural lines including the West Highland Line and the Far North Line.
