The story of

Metro de Santiago

Metro de Santiago opened in 1975 with Line 1, becoming the second metro system in South America after Buenos Aires. The network has expanded significantly over the decades, with Line 2 opening in 1978, Line 5 in 1997, and Line 4 in 2005. Line 6 opened in 2017 and Line 3 in 2019, making it one of the most modern metro systems in the region. The system also integrates with EFE commuter rail services (Tren Nos and Tren Rancagua) connecting Santiago to surrounding areas. The metro carries over 2 million passengers daily and is a key part of Santiago's integrated public transit network.
