The story of

Great Western Railway

Great Western Railway (GWR) is a train operating company running services across a large swath of southern England and Wales. The brand takes its name from the original Great Western Railway, founded by Isambard Kingdom Brunel in 1833, which was one of the most famous railway companies in British history. The modern GWR has been operated by FirstGroup since 2015, running services from London Paddington to Bristol, Cardiff, Exeter, Plymouth, Penzance, and numerous other destinations. The network includes the newly electrified Great Western Main Line, high-speed intercity services, and scenic branch lines through Devon and Cornwall.
