Eurostar

The story of

Eurostar

Eurostar began commercial service on 14 November 1994, initially running between London Waterloo and Paris Gare du Nord and Brussels-Midi. The service was made possible by the completion of the Channel Tunnel, linking the United Kingdom to mainland Europe by rail for the first time. In 2007, Eurostar moved its London terminus to the newly renovated St Pancras International, coinciding with the opening of High Speed 1, which dramatically cut journey times. The London-Paris journey dropped to around 2 hours 15 minutes. In 2018, Eurostar extended direct services to Amsterdam Centraal. The company merged with Thalys in 2023, creating a unified high-speed rail network across Western Europe under the Eurostar brand.
