The story of
Deutsche Bahn was formed in 1994 from the merger of the former West German Deutsche Bundesbahn and East German Deutsche Reichsbahn following German reunification. The ICE (Intercity-Express) high-speed network launched in 1991, and today DB Fernverkehr is one of Europe's largest long-distance rail operators, running ICE, IC, and EC services across Germany and into neighboring countries.
