The story of
The Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) was established in 1999 to provide public transportation in the Charlotte metropolitan area. The LYNX Blue Line, the first light rail line in North Carolina, opened in 2007 and was later extended in 2018. CATS also operates the CityLYNX Gold Line streetcar, which began service in 2015. The system has played a significant role in Charlotte's urban development and continues to expand to meet the region's growing transportation needs.
