The story of

Parramatta Light Rail

Announced in 2015, the Parramatta Light Rail project aims to enhance connectivity in Western Sydney. Stage 1 construction began in 2019 and opened to passengers on 20 December 2024. Stage 2, approved in 2024 with a $2.1 billion commitment, commenced early works in late 2024, with major construction starting in 2025. This stage includes a new bridge over the Parramatta River and is expected to be operational by 2031.
