MetroLink is a light rail system serving the St. Louis metropolitan area, connecting Missouri and Illinois with two lines.
The story of
MetroLink began operations in 1993 with its initial line between East St. Louis and Lambert International Airport. The system expanded in 2001 with the addition of the Blue Line (originally called Cross County Extension) serving Clayton and Shrewsbury. The system was one of the first modern light rail systems in the Midwest and has played an important role in connecting major destinations including downtown St. Louis, the Gateway Arch, universities, hospitals, and both sports stadiums.
