Finland's national railway network operated by VR Group, covering long-distance, commuter, and regional rail services across the country.
The story of
Finland's railway network dates back to 1862 with the opening of the Helsinki-Hämeenlinna line. VR Group (formerly Finnish State Railways) has operated the network since 1862, making it one of Europe's oldest continuously operating railway companies. The network connects major cities including Helsinki, Tampere, Turku, and Oulu, with the northernmost services reaching Kolari in Lapland. The Allegro service to St. Petersburg operated until 2022. Finland uses 1,524mm broad gauge, inherited from the Russian Empire era.
