Adelaide Metro operates the commuter rail and tram network serving the Adelaide metropolitan area in South Australia.
The story of
Adelaide's first railway opened in 1856, making it one of Australia's oldest rail networks. The metropolitan rail system now comprises six lines radiating from Adelaide Railway Station, serving suburbs from Belair in the Adelaide Hills to Gawler in the north, Outer Harbor on the coast, and Seaford in the south. The iconic Glenelg tram line, originally opened in 1929, was modernised in 2007 and extended through the CBD to the Adelaide Entertainment Centre. The network underwent significant upgrades including electrification of the Seaford and Tonsley lines in 2014.
